Sewing Room

Realizing a while ago that my sewing room had been taken over by fabric and had ZERO organization (there were two paths in the room. One to get to the dress dummy, another to get to the sewing machine), I went to IKEA today given the sale. Yes, it was crowded but everyone was nice so it wasn't horrible.

I went there looking for organizing stuff. I honestly wasn't sure what I wanted, just something to help organize the mess. I ended up with a really neat open wardrobe stand ($30!) that fits perfectly in the corner of the room, a new bookcase, a shelving unit, and a couple of things that are meant for toys. They are these mesh bags that you hang from the ceiling that kids can throw their toys in? I figured they would work very well for scrap bags and get the scraps off the floor and up where I can see how much I really have.

I've been working on the room since about four today and I'm officially half way done with cleaning it up. (I told y'all it was bad). I'll show the horrific "before" (well, it's was a half hour after I started but most of the room was still terrifying) and after pictures tomorrow.

So far, the biggest problem has been the "need to fix/repair/adjust" pile. No surprise there because I loathe taking anything apart. Looking as all those stitches and having to cut each one while making sure you don't rip the fabric? Gag! So, I'm cleaning up that pile and will, hopefully, actually work on these poor garments that have been languishing in the pile for...ummm...a while.

Anyway, since I've been cleaning up the room and make it reasonable, I haven't gotten any sewing done today. But I think cleaning up the sewing room should count towards some sort of sewing progress. :-)
