Some Sewing
Aug. 24th, 2011 10:48 pmI have some sort of stupid head cold today. Grr. I'm taking something for it but I had to come home and crash for five hours.
I did get to the point where I have about an hour left on one embroidery on the semi-secret project. This means I only have five more! However, it's also been five more for three weeks so...
I ripped out the grosgrain ribbon from a Venetian Dress I've been trying to make since er...May? The ribbon was just too much trouble! Not only did I have to make the stitches way too tiny and a whole bunch of them, I'm still not sure the ribbon would hold up to the stress like it should -I had tried it once before and the front of the gown still didn't lay quite right. I'm going back to lacing rings -much easier to deal with and I think I know how to get the front to stay flat.
Also, does anyone have access to a bigger version of this painting? http://www.lepg.org/cook.jpg
It's from 1604 and it's by Pieter Cornelisz van Ryck. I'm curious on the bodice construction....
