So, this sweet little guy is amazing around Miss Ginsie, totally wants to be around a human (he slept curled up against my back last night), and is very clearly trained. I know someone is missing him.

Given that, I've searched craigslist and put up a found ad. I called up the non-emergency police to which I got a "No, no one called here about a lost cat. *click*" Uh, seriously? You don't want my phone in case someone does call up this morning? I also called animal control and the animal shelter to leave messages. He's perfectly fine here but I know someone else is missing him and probably frantically trying to figure out who to call and what to do.

I don't think I can do much more. I'll look around the neighborhood for lost cat flyers and up at the grocery store especially. We have a community board up there. I'm sort of hesitant to post a "Found" cat poster since anyone can claim that he's theirs. Like I said, I put one up on craigslist but not with a lot of detail beyond gray striped cat.

Because of the cat, I may not make it to Holiday Faire. I really want to make finding this poor guy's owner my priority.

It's very likely you won't. Very nice cats are abandoned for all sorts of reasons. If animal control or the animal shelter (best bet) don't have a message, you likely have inherited a cat. That's how I ended up with my kitty. :-)

:-) That's probably true. And I don't mind -I'll need to come up with a good name for him- but I know how I would feel if Miss Ginsie escaped and I couldn't find her.

You'd probably call the places you've already called, and post something at the grocery store, and maybe check Craig's list? If they want to reach out, they will.

Congratulations, you're a real seamstress now. You can't be a real seamstress without a cat messing with your fabric. ;-)

What a sweetie. Have you had him scanned for a chip? Some pets have an ID chip that has all the owners info.

And I might say in any ad you put up that they must provide photo for proof of ownership.

I haven't gotten him scanned yet. I did talk to the animal shelter - I went up to them to see them personally. I gave my name and number but they told me to bring him in on Monday so they can do a health check and give him his shots -what they would do to any animal that would come in normally. I'll get him back on Tuesday morning and then in mid Dec they are having a spay and neuter fair so they'll take him then if he needs it. The shelter will do everything for free or really low cost since I'm more than willing to just keep him and they don't have to house him.

The idea of asking for a photo is a good one. I'll ask if anyone replies. He has a couple of markers that I think most pet owners might know about so I held off on pointing those out in the ad. I guess, though, I might have a cat!

I agree with cauldroncakebkr. When you take him back to the shelter see if he has a chip. Other than that you have done everything you could/can. I am so glad he found you/a friendly person.

Aww! I hope you find his owners, but if not, I'm glad he could find a good home with you. :)

I'd like to find them too. I really believe someone is missing him - he's way too domesticated.

...and he learned a new game today. Spin the scissors. It's more fun that bat at the thread spool!

He really is sweet. Currently, Ginsie is my right armrest and Jasper is my left armrest. I have very uneven armrests....

All Jasper wants to do is sit in my lap and sleep. I guess he thinks he's a lap dog and not a cat?

D'awwww! *melts* He looks adorable! I hope that if someone is looking for him, they find you, but if not, he sounds like a great one to have found you!

My dog thinks she's a cat - she paws at fabric- and the possibly soon to be my cat thinks he's a lap dog! :-)

I haven't heard anything via craigslist and I've been watching the classifieds on petfinder with nothing coming up. I'll double check the grocery store bulletin board tomorrow because I don't want to "steal" someone else's cat. However, if they aren't calling up the animal shelters, posting flyers, and posting to the internet about Jasper, then I guess he's mine.

...I really want to put a big red bow on him and declare him my Christmas present if no one claims him. Maybe he just escaped from the North Pole early! ;-)
