Okay, so the adapter I waited for forever didn't really work. Or, more probably, windows XP is finicky and didn't like this unknown piece of hardware that was connecting the drive to various cords. I discovered, however, that the computer Mom gave me to play with is made of awesomesauce. It has four space for RAM (memory) and it DOES have a SATA connection - it was just hidden beneath a bunch of wires so I didn't see it. I looked at the specs, finally, and saw where it should be, moved the wires otu of the way and, tada! There is was. Yay!
So I ordered the proper cords for the drive I accidentally ordered. They were only $5 total I think for both the power cord for the drive and the data cord. Shipping was free. Gotta love Amazon prime. I connected everything, ran BIOS, made sure it registered "Hey, you have a SATA drive and not an IDE drive." The computer understood and Windows XP ran! Yay!
So, now I'm updating everything and making sure the computer is up to date. This means it's sitting in the middle of the living room floor because Windows XP, when it first came out, didn't understand such things as usb drives and very much did not understand USB internet connection. This means, in order to update XP, I had to have a hard cable line and not a wireless connection to the computer. Both Ginsie and Jasper think it's very funny for me to be sitting on the floor....
Anyway, the computer should be fully updated and ready to work - again- this evening. I'm really excited! I fixed the computer! I have a desktop again! Yay!
