So, around 8pm, I was playing around on my computer. Not a big deal. I had the TV on in the other room and I kept hearing this very weird meowing sound. I thought it was just the TV and ignored it. In a way, I'm glad I did.

I heard Ginsie get up and then I heard her come back in and I could tell Jasper followed. Around 9, I got up, turned around and... There was my puppy, near my kitten, both looking very proud of a rather large very dead brown mouse they caught. Jasper was still pawing at it and looked up at me like "We did well, right?" They both got extra food.

According to where they both keep looking, it looks like the mouse was in the laundry room (Jasper has set up a watch and kept looking beneath the laundry basket). I double checked and, oh yes, there is a hole in the dryer vent. It's not big but it doesn't have to be for a mouse to slip through. So, duct tape for now but calling up the HOA on Monday to see if they repair that type of thing. Wow, I'm actually using duct tape for it's intended purpose! And, based on these two, I do not need any mouse traps.

EDIT: I woke up at 5 am (because I really am that sick, grr) and went downstairs to grab a ginger ale and just veg in front of the tv for a bit. Well, Jasper retook up his post behind the washer and dryer. All I could see was his furry bum and his tail swishing back and forth. At first, I figured it was just a vain hope that another mouse was in the house until I heard *something* like it was in the vent still. Oh yes, another mouse. Jasper caught it. He is a very excellent mouser. I'm calling up the HOA, like I said earlier, and I'll see if they'll replace the dryer vent entirely. I'm just glad I don't absolutely need to do laundry because there is no way I'm using the dryer right now.

Go go!

Yay!! Go, go team!!! :-) I really want a cat. I love dogs too, but dogs are really hard to move with. I have been thinking about it for several weeks. The deterrent is that I would have to pay the pet deposit. Ugh.

Ginsie was actually really easy to move with. I did have to stop every two hours at a rest area but it was only for a couple of minutes and I needed to get up and walk for a couple of minutes too. :-) She's awesome on long car trips as well. My parents sometimes take her with them down to North Carolina when I'm going to be away at a conference - she loves the beach.

Jasper -so far- has been a pain to take anywhere. Of course, that might be partially due to his time "on the outside" where cars were evil animals that tried to run him over.

Plus, a lot of hotels now accept dogs but not cats. La Quinta is awesome about dogs.

Yeah. :-) It's not so much the travel as the fact that a lot of places don't allow dogs. I like really big dogs, so that also is a problem.

The dogs I've had haven't minded the moves. My cat however had a major fit. We had to wrap him in a towel and I had my friend hold him. He came out with a roar like a lion! It was kind of funny. :-) I miss that cat.

Anyway, I tend to have outside dogs. For them you have to find a house that has a fenced yard and allows dogs. There aren't many rentals around like that.

:-) They were both very proud of themselves. Jasper lamented this morning that I dared to take away his kill before he was ready. Of course, by his lack of enthusiasm now regarding the laundry room, my guess is there aren't any more mice.
