So, about three years ago (I think) I bought a small sandwich baggie of purple wool roving at an SCA event for $5. I just now finished hand spinning with a drop spindle that wool. Now, of course, this isn't something I worked on every day (or even every month!), but, still, it took FOREVER.

I spun the wool thinly so I can use it for a very late Elizabethan project and, possibly, have enough left over for a Norse embroidery project. We'll see. In about ten years at my current pace. Maybe.

The wool is soaking wet in the picture and wrapped around the legs of a luggage rack I need to fix. I didn't have anything else that was evenly spaced like that and yet could hold the yarn taunt. I'll check on it in a couple of days and then wrap it into a ball.

Have I mentioned lately how much I need a spinning wheel? ;-)

You can see there is a good bit of yardage in this close up. You can also probably see that it's not perfectly uniform. I'm rather bad a spinning still but I really want to make something more than a shawl where I can say that I spun the yarn as well as embroidered the piece. You know, just because.
