So....

I realized today, I've trained my cat. Jasper will come when I call him. He'll immediately stop doing something if I hiss at him. He'll sit for food. He's also done a few other things that I just figured were cues from Ginsie. However, I now realize I've been training him like I train Ginsie...and he listens.

Does anyone else have a trained cat?

I don't have a cat right now, but our cat Nicodemus that we had 13 years ago was trained to walk on a leash, come when called, she did tricks like sitting, standing, and lying down. She was totally the best and would even ride around on your shoulder like a parrot!

I thought "Here, honey! Take a picture of this!" was already covered in Husband training...

My kitty is trained to do little things but unlike a dog he will only do them if he wants to. If hes not in the mood he wont.

My previous cats were trained. The best part of their training was that when I called them by chir-ruping at them, they'd run into the house and get on the kitchen table, then wait for me. It was the easiest way to get them where they could be groomed... it even worked well enough that I got my (mistakely allowed out) female in heat to leave the guys around her and come inside instead. Thank goodness.

But the present cat? Not a thing. The most 'cat-like' feline I've ever owned. Isn't trainable, rarely comes when called, doesn't want treats or any food other than her kibbles, and totally destroys furniture.

I miss my previous cats.

I've got a couple of friends who've trained their cats. Most cats are trainable, it's just that they find us much easier to train than we do then.

My cat growing up was trained. You could call her name and say "time for bed" and she would run into the room where she stayed at night. You could also say "give me a kiss" and she would rub her cheek against your face. She was a good cat. :)

The first cat I had was trained. She would come when she was called, etc. The funniest though is that after 50 years of having dogs my in-laws found themselves adopting a stray cat. Since they had never had cats, they treated Indy as a dog. Now they take him for walks on a leash (he weighs about 20 lbs.), etc.

My old cat, Mips Mioppet, always came when I called. Somewhat faster if I added food... :) That's why I knew when she was dying- I called and she didn't came! She trained me too, whenever she woke up she had a special sound that meant "I am awake. Where are you" and when I answered she came running. If awake, she always stayed in teh same room as I did.

I miss her!
