I rented a rug doctor the other day. With the cat and the dog and the drama between then over the past month, it was very necessary. It's not cheap but it's a lot cheaper than having someone else come in.
The rug doctor claims that a single bottle of cleaner can clean a 1000 sq foot house. Okay, great! My house is around 800sq feet and I only have carpet on the stairs and in the sewing room. (Personally, I'd love to put wood floors in the sewing room but then I think of a) how much that would cost and b) moving all the stuff out of the sewing room. It's b that demotivates me very very quickly. A is just a matter of rearranging the budget for a few months.) I used the entire bottle of cleaner. And I didn't even use the rug doctor on every square inch of carpeting I have. I didn't have the accessories (It would have been even more $$ to rent those) so I didn't get the stairs. I just got the upper landing on the second floor and the main walking area of the sewing room. Maybe 100 sq feet; certainly not 1000 sq ft.
I did empty the water and yeah...well, I haven't shampooed the carpets in a while. It clearly needs this at least once every six months. I think that would help... But now, the places I managed to get - which were the ones I was most concerned with- are nice, bright, and clean! Yay!
...Now to go watch more hoarders and motivate me to clean some more. ;-)
