More on Pennsic Prep
Jun. 16th, 2014 06:36 pmI bought a 16w solar panel so I could at least have some power to charge up phones and other necessary to live (wait, how did we do this 15 years ago?!?) devices like the laptop. However, during a test of the solar panel, I realized that the power to the phone was intermittent. This meant that even while the phone was off, it would power up just enough to tell me it was powering up only to go back off again and then cycle back through. This meant the phone lost more power than it was recharging so...I bought a battery bank.
For the electronics geeks, I bought a 10000mAH battery bank (in purple & black so no one will doubt it's mine. Actually, if I paint the black teal, then no one will doubt it...). The solar panel can charge that up intermittently without the battery bank losing power while it's charging. (I already tested it) I can then hook up the phone, the kindle, and anything else that has a USB port to the battery bank and power everything back up at night. The battery bank has two USB ports. I just need to remember to hang up the solar panel in the window of the trailer during the day with the battery bank attached (which is easy since the usb ports for the solar panel happen to be in a pocket that fits the battery bank perfectly).
What does this all mean for Pennsic? It means I don't need to find a plug all the time anymore or run to the car to charge things up. I at least have enough power to stay connected at all times. Woohoo! ...and if anyone questions the shiny black thing in the window - it's a magic mirror I stole from an evil Queen. Perfectly medieval answer.
