I got my corn free candy today and yum! I wasn't sure what to expect since I hadn't dealt with the NaturalCandyStore.com before or a lot of corn syrup/corn starch free candies. My sweets have been very limited for the past year. Basically, Hersey bars.

So, I ordered the ricemellow creme, spicy cinnamon hard candies and natural gummy worms. I've now tried them all.

Ricemellow Creme I looks like a bubbly marshmellow creme with a slightly toasted appearance and it tastes like it too. It's a bit different than traditional marshmellow creme (even the sugar based ones Ive made before) with a more syrupy taste to it. It's quite good and I'm going to order more before Pennsic.

Cinnamon It's a great little spicy candy that does taste homemade.

Gummy Worms! I am eating them right now and they taste amazing. I will be ordering a LOT more of them in the future.

The order didn't take long and the candy was all well packed. And delicious. I think I need some more gummy worms...

I've had the corn allergy for about a year and I've been serious about "no corn" for almost a year. It's been...interesting. Not only can I not have *anything* that has corn syrup in it, but also no corn starch. Oh, and the food companies think it's funny to rename something either dextrose or "modified food starch" because some how if you rename it, it no longer has the corn DNA. 0_o?

I have to be careful of everything from potato chips (fried in corn oil) to ice cream, to bubble gum, to breads, and even medications (Tums). Really, the only "snack" food I've been able to eat lately are Hersey bars (even my favorite Reese Cups have dextrose in them) and dove chocolates. Yet, in summer, I'm use to fun stuff like lollipops, gobstoppers, and cinnamon red hots -none of which I can have anymore. Well, Trader Joe's carries the organic lollipops which are awesome but still, most regular sweets have corn.

Given that, I looked up any corn syrup free candies and found this:

They have a good about of candy (cinnamons? Yay!) and also specialize in a lot of other restrictive diets. I'm going to order some candy from them tonight (MARSHMELLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and see how they are.

I probably should start with saying that my corn allergy -unlike my Tomato or my Buckwheat allergy- is mild. I won't swell up and end up in the ER. If I have say a regular coke cola (corn syrup) I'll probably just end up with "tummy issues" for a couple of hours. In order to avoid that, I've been avoiding corn. The interesting thing is that even my Dad has recognized how much healthier (ie, I'm not sick all the time!) I've gotten since I've been avoiding corn. I haven't lost weight, I've just been not eating anything with corn. More on corn and it's evilness )
